What Is Firewise USA®?
Firewise USA® is a free, voluntary program that encourages and assists neighbors to work together in improving wildfire safety and resilience in their neighborhoods. The program provides a simple framework for organizing, planning, and taking action to reduce wildfire risks around our homes.
A neighbor who is a retired Fire Chief has agreed to lead this effort in helping our North County community become more fire safety aware and resilient. We provide an online platform for local community information gathering and sharing so that individuals and communities can connect, exchange ideas, and access valuable information.

Notice to California Residents
California has enacted "Safer from Wildfires" regulations that require insurance companies to recognize Firewise USA® designated communities by providing discounts to property owners in those communities.

Three Steps Every Homeowner Can Take
Create Defensible Space
California law requires 100 feet of clearance around your home. Defensible space is the buffer between your home and the grass, trees, and shrubs that surround it — giving firefighters room to work and slowing the spread of fire toward your structure.
Learn the three zonesHarden Your Home
Most homes ignite from embers landing on vulnerable surfaces — vents, gutters, wood decks, and gaps in siding. Home hardening means sealing those vulnerabilities before fire season. Many improvements are low-cost and high-impact, and your Firewise Certificate can help you qualify for insurance discounts.
